Many of us from early childhood know that the ocean occupies almost the entire surface of our green planet, or rather, 70% of it. And the incredible number of organisms between these extremes, such as octopuses, cuttlefish, mollusks replenishes every year.
Until now, all the mysteries and secrets of these deep waters have not been solved by scientists, however, humanity is doing everything possible to discover more and more new species of previously unknown animals and plants. Thus, fish species were discovered that, according to scientists, became extinct millions of years ago.
Search for a couple deep in the water
In the deep waters of the open sea it is very difficult to find a partner for procreation. That is why many species of deep-sea fish find a peculiar approach to solving this problem. Young males, as soon as they see their chosen one, simply “stick” to her. Thus, soon their organisms literally grow together. They become an extension of each other's bodies. And as soon as the time comes, the males fertilize the eggs. So they spend their whole lives fused with a female body.
Shark teeth
The main weapon of a shark is its teeth. She grabs them and kills her victim, which often becomes an occasion to create another horror movie. But the terrible instrument of death of this marine predator is capable of tearing meat and bones into small pieces, which inevitably leads to timely wear of teeth.Nature provided for this problem, because every 10 days a new row of teeth grows in the shark. Thus, using the first and second row of teeth, they store the third and fourth row “in reserve”, ready to replace the old ones.
Losing the rays
A relative of the well-known starfish, the fragile star got its bizarre name due to the way in which it escapes from predators. As soon as a brittle star is attacked, it is forced to get rid of one of its rays. Losing him, she gets the opportunity to escape from the persecution. It is curious that in especially dangerous situations a star may lose all five of its rays. However, the increased ability to regenerate allows you to restore them all.
Fish - stuck
This inhabitant of the deep sea eats carrion, attaching itself to the bodies of large and animal fish with the help of peculiar suction cups. And after the owner’s dinner, the fish eats its remains. This method of transportation is very convenient for long trips. An unusual sucker is located on the head of the fish and is a modified fin. At will, the sticking fish can either separate from the old owner or choose a new one.
In Australia, these marine inhabitants are used to catch large sea turtles. As soon as hunters notice such a surface close to it, they release sticky fish into the water, and its tail is pre-wrapped with strong fishing line.
Sea anemone and clown fish - house protected by poison
Sea anemones are very toxic, their tentacles kill small fish that have fallen to them. However, they are not afraid of only one fish, it is a clown fish. She lives among the tentacles of sea anemones. The mucus is a special protection for the clown fish. The poisonous anemone shelter saves the fish from predators. In turn, a bright fish serves as a bait for many fish that fall into the anemone trap and become a victim themselves.
Such mutually beneficial cooperation saves the life of the fish and provides constant nutrition to sea anemones.
